Legal help for domestic violence

Domestic violence is not a private matter — it is a violation of the law, and Bulgarian law provides fast and effective protection measures. The association "Legal Incubator — Bulgaria" supports victims with free consultations, assistance under the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act, and court representation — confidentially and without judgement.

In immediate danger — call the national emergency number 112 right away.

Your rights

What protection the law provides

Immediate protection under the DVP Act

The Protection Against Domestic Violence Act provides fast protection through a protection order — issued by the district court in an expedited procedure, on the day the application is filed in urgent cases.

Types of protection measures

The court may prohibit the perpetrator from approaching you, remove them from the shared home, restrict contact with children, and order mandatory programmes to address violent behaviour.

Who can request protection

The victim, any direct-line relative, and — in cases involving a child — the director of the Social Assistance Directorate or a prosecutor.

Police measures

In urgent danger, police authorities can impose an immediate 24-hour measure removing the perpetrator from the home. The police are obliged to inform you of your rights.
